Top 5 Tips

Your long-term enjoyment of a solid wood floor is dependent on the quality of materials used and the knowledge and experience of the people who install it.

Here are our 5 top tips to avoid the problems described in the case studies featured below.

  1. Verify where the product was made.  Reputable German manufacturers conform to stringent quality standards.
  2. Verify the experience and accreditation of the fitter.  Does he follow British Standards   Has he been formally trained?  Is he happy for you to check references and talk to existing customers?
  3. Make sure that the fitter uses moisture and humidity meters.  Excessive damp will lead to enormous problems.  Make sure your fitter understands the importance of this issue and do not let him proceed if he does not.
  4. Do not assume that fitters recommended by your flooring retailer are sufficiently qualified or experienced.  Make your own checks.
  5. Check out the warranty period for both the product and fitting.  Reputable organisations will offer a warranty period of longer than 12 months for both.

We hope you find the following case studies informative.  Remember, a solid wood floor is aliving breathing entity. Its success depends on the quality of product and the technical expertise and experience of the fitter.  Avoid cutting corners to make sure you do not repeat the experiences of Mr X and Mr & Mrs A!.
